Squalicorax, whose name literally means “crow shark,” was a formidable predator of Cretaceous seas. Growing up to 16–20 feet long, it shared a body plan similar to modern requiem sharks (like grey reef sharks), but its teeth are strikingly reminiscent of the tiger shark, with sharp serrations designed for slicing through flesh and bone. These teeth reveal much about its lifestyle: Squalicorax likely prowled coastal waters, preying on fish, marine reptiles, and smaller sharks. Tooth marks from this species have even been found on Pterosaur bones!
