Leonaspis trilobites are found across the world, only missing from Antarctica to date. These come from the Devonian strata near Alnif, Morocco, a region celebrated for its exceptional trilobite preservation. A member of the family Odontopleuridae, Leonaspis is instantly recognizable by its ornate array of spines covering the head, thorax, and pygidium, giving it one of the most dramatic appearances among trilobites.

These trilobites were benthic dwellers, likely moving slowly across the seafloor or resting partially buried in sediment. Their elongated spines served both as a defensive adaptation against predators and as a stabilizing aid in soft, shifting substrates. The raised eyes of Leonaspis would have provided a wide visual range, helping it stay alert in the dynamic ecosystems of the Devonian seas.
