Calymene (Colpocoryphe) Trilobites -- 2-3"
These authentic Colpocoryphe trilobites, often known in the market as Calymene, come from the fossil-rich outcrops near Alnif, Morocco, a region celebrated for its beautifully preserved Devonian faunas. Belonging to the Calymenidae family, Colpocoryphe is part of a lineage of trilobites that flourished across the ancient seas of Gondwana.
Interestingly, Trilobites would molt like a modern crab, and many of these fossils are actually of shed exoskeletons! When the cheeks of the trilobite (librigenae) are not present on the fossil, it indicated that this was a molt.
Ecologically, these trilobites were seafloor dwellers, most likely scavenging or feeding on organic detritus within the sediment. They shared their ecosystem with brachiopods, corals, crinoids, and early jawed fishes in the shallow epicontinental seas that covered what is now the Anti-Atlas Mountains.
