About Gerastos
These authentic Gerastos trilobites come from the Devonian strata of Morocco’s Anti-Atlas region, particularly near Alnif and Erfoud. Belonging to the order Proetida, Gerastos were small, compact trilobites that thrived on the seafloor, where their rounded form and smooth carapace helped them move easily across soft sediments.
Gerastos specimens are most often found in Lower to Middle Devonian limestones, with local preparators carefully uncovering them from dense rock layers that preserve their details with exceptional clarity. Their relatively small size makes them some of the more accessible and abundant Moroccan trilobites, but well-prepared examples remain highly sought after.
Gerastos can be recognized by its globular cephalon, crescent-shaped eyes, and tightly rounded pygidium that gives it a pill-bug-like appearance. These features set it apart from other Moroccan trilobites, making it a favorite among both beginner and advanced collectors.
Compact, detailed, and often beautifully preserved, Gerastos trilobites are a classic representation of Morocco’s Devonian fossil record.
