Scabriscutellum Trilobite w/ Phacopid -- 1.4" (3.6 cm)
These authentic Scabriscutellum trilobites come from the Devonian strata of Morocco’s Anti-Atlas Mountains. Belonging to the order Corynexochida, this genus represents benthic trilobites that lived close to the seafloor, using their sturdy build to stay adapted to a sediment-rich marine environment.
Most Moroccan Scabriscutellum trilobites are found in the Lower to Middle Devonian beds, often from horizons associated with the Lhandar and overlying formations. Local collectors carefully extract them from limestone layers, where they are preserved with remarkable detail.
Scabriscutellum can be identified by its more defined glabellar furrows, roughened exoskeleton surface, and a pygidium that is less broad and fan-like than that of Platyscutellum.
Highly collectible, Scabriscutellum fossils display a striking, sculptural quality that makes them a notable showpiece.
